Terry J. Stroud is a mature Canadian Certified Counsellor with 11 years of experience working with adolescents in multiple settings, spiritual and religious sensitivity and awareness, and care for people of all walks of life. He has a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology With Distinction, experience as a pastor, and three years of electrical experience on multiple commercial and residential trade sites (often being called the ‘site counsellor’). This varied experience gives him the ability to work with all people, no matter what their background, to cater the theories and methods to the specific client’s life and journey.
Terry offers therapy rooted in helping the client create value and meaning in their situation and regain a sense of purpose when it feels lost. The challenging question of “why?!” that we all face in our darkest of times or when the unexpected happens can send us into a spiral. Regaining that sense of meaning and creating purpose in those situations helps us reorient and find peace and healing.
He utilizes Internal Family Systems (IFS), a therapeutic approach that helps clients identify and heal internal parts of themselves that may be in conflict. While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is largely covered by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), he draws on these approaches as needed to help clients challenge negative thought patterns and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
Whether working with individuals who fit within the Queer Community (2SLGBTQIA+), trades workers, adolescents, individuals who are struggling with anxiety or depression, or individuals who may have experienced religious trauma, Terry aims to be culturally responsive and mindfully aware of their journey, caring deeply for the life and world that the person comes from. While existential and humanistic in nature, Terry integrates multiple tools on top of this to create a diverse experience that is catered to the client’s greatest needs.
