About Courtney
Courtney Culham is an experienced Nurse Practitioner with over 25 years in healthcare and a deep commitment to providing thorough, compassionate, trauma-informed mental health care. After beginning her career as a Registered Nurse, she completed her Master’s Degree in Nursing and a Post-Master’s Nurse Practitioner Diploma at the University of Calgary. Since 2011, Courtney has worked across a wide range of clinical settings, with a sub-specialty focus in mental health and addiction medicine.
Courtney is highly skilled in completing comprehensive psychiatric and mental health assessments, including evaluation of complex and overlapping conditions such as OCD, bipolar disorder, concurrent disorders, personality-related challenges, ADHD, trauma-related conditions, and other diagnostic presentations that can be difficult to untangle. She is especially passionate about supporting individuals who have felt misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or rushed through the system.
For those navigating complex mental health concerns, Courtney offers something many people struggle to find: time, depth, and genuine curiosity about your lived experience. When a brief 15-minute psychiatric visit is not enough, Courtney provides extended appointments to better understand the full picture: emotionally, psychologically, and physically. She also considers the important connection between mental and physical health and helps identify when medical factors may be contributing to symptoms, making referrals to appropriate professionals when needed. From assessment, diagnosis and prescribing, Courtney can support you.
Courtney has extensive experience supporting individuals with eating disorders, borderline personality disorder, OCD, trauma, ADHD, addictions, and other high-acuity mental health conditions. She also works within inpatient treatment settings for young adults with eating disorders and serves as a clinical lead at a treatment centre specializing in concurrent disorders and recovery-focused care.
In addition, Courtney is deeply committed to perinatal mental health, including birth trauma and postpartum psychiatric concerns such as perinatal mood disorders and psychosis. She understands the unique vulnerability of this life stage and provides sensitive, specialized care for individuals and families during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
Courtney is also a Registered Counselling Therapist through the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta, allowing her to integrate therapeutic support alongside medical expertise. She is honoured to have been trained and mentored by some of Calgary’s most respected mental health clinicians and brings both clinical excellence and empathy into every appointment.
Outside of her professional work, Courtney enjoys spending time in nature with her family and friends. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Nurse Practitioner Association of Alberta, as the Director of Mental Health and Recovery, continuing her dedication to improving mental health care systems and outcomes.
If you are seeking a provider who will take the time to truly understand what you are going through and support you with both expertise and compassion, Courtney welcomes you to book an appointment.
