Comprehensive, Interdisciplinary ADHD Assessments for Children, Adults, & Midlife Transitions
Finally, An Answer That Makes Sense
You aren’t “broken,” “lazy,” or “just anxious.” You deserve a diagnosis that looks at the whole picture—brain, body, and hormones—to help you stop struggling and start thriving.

The Problem
If you're reading this, you're likely exhausted.
For Parents
You see your smart, capable child struggling to keep up, losing homework, or melting down after school. You worry that they are being labeled as “difficult” when you know they are trying their hardest.
For Adults
You might feel like you’re constantly paddling underwater while everyone else is floating. You’ve spent years masking, overworking to compensate for “brain fog,” or wondering why you can’t just “get it together.”
For Women
You may have been told for years that it’s “just anxiety” or “hormones,” yet the overwhelm never goes away.
Many women seeking an ADHD assessment appear capable, accomplished, and ‘together’ on the outside, yet feel chronically overwhelmed, exhausted, or behind on the inside. You may have spent years compensating, overpreparing, masking, and pushing harder, while quietly struggling with focus, organization, emotional regulation, or follow-through. Your challenges may have been attributed to anxiety, stress, or burnout, especially if you did well in school or work. For many women, ADHD doesn’t look like hyperactivity; it looks like mental overload, self-doubt, and working twice as hard to keep up.”
Hormonal changes such as shifts in estrogen during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, postpartum, and perimenopause, can impact ADHD symptoms in women. Many experience changes in focus, emotional regulation, or overwhelm during these times, making it important to consider hormones when understanding ADHD across the lifespan.
It's okay to feel frustrated.
ADHD is a neurobiological and developmental condition—it is not a flaw in character or willpower. Because ADHD symptoms often overlap with anxiety, depression, trauma, and physical health conditions, a simple checklist isn’t enough.
Accurate diagnosis requires depth, not shortcuts. At Level Up Wellness Group, we don’t just count symptoms; we look at the whole person to reduce misdiagnosis and offer a clear, evidence-based path forward.
The Level Up Approach
(Our Methodology)
How We Work
Depth Over Speed
We provide comprehensive, interdisciplinary ADHD assessments across the lifespan. Our approach is intentionally designed to catch what others miss. We combine psychological testing with medical and hormonal insights to ensure your diagnosis is accurate and your treatment plan is actually doable.
What Makes Our Assessments Different?
- Whole-Person Evaluation: We assess cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioural functioning. We look at how ADHD impacts your life, not just your focus.
- Hormone-Informed Care: We have specialized expertise in female and midlife ADHD. We understand how puberty, pregnancy, and perimenopause impact the brain and ADHD symptoms.
- Differential Diagnosis: We work hard to rule out (or rule in) anxiety, depression, learning differences, and physical health conditions so you don’t get treated for the wrong thing.
- Integrated Medical Options: We are one of the few clinics offering seamless collaboration between Psychology and Nurse Practitioners for medication management.
- Assessing learning differences requires a psycho-educational assessment. Hormone assessments are a separate assessment. Please contact our team for details.
Our 3 Assessment Pathways
We offer three clear pathways - choose the level of support that fits your needs.
Psychology-Led ADHD Assessment
Best For: Those seeking diagnostic clarity, workplace/school accommodations, and understanding how their brain works with our ADHD assessment specialists.
- Evaluation of executive functioning, attention, and emotional regulation.
- Information is collected from teachers (where possible), parents and the child. Report cards may be requested.
- Screening for anxiety, depression, and other co-occurring concerns.
Output: A detailed 5–10 page written report with diagnosis and practical recommendations.
Psychology + Medical Collaboration
Best For: Clients who want a “Gold Standard” integrated care model.
- Full psychological ADHD assessment (as above) and a referral to ADHD Nurse Practitioner team for medication treatment and/supplement support.
- Medical consultation to support diagnostic interpretation.
- Coordinated recommendations between your Psychologist and Nurse Practitioner.
- Prescribing medication, including stimulants as the gold standard for ADHD treatment, and potential supplements.
- Order of bloodwork where appropriate (covered by Alberta Health). It is common for individuals with ADHD to have low nutrients such as: iron, ferritin, zinc, magnesium, vitamin D, Omega fatty acids, B vitamins and more. This can impact sleep and how your brain functions.
Nurse Practitioner ADHD Assessment & Treatment
Best For: Clients specifically seeking a diagnosis and medication and/or supplement support. Our medical team works with patients who feel unheard by their family doctor, don’t have a family doctor, or whose doctor is uncomfortable or not familiar with prescribing stimulants.
- Comprehensive ADHD assessment focused on medical management.
- Nurse Practitioner care specializing in ADHD.
- Personalized medication selection and titration (finding the right dose).
- Supplement and non-pharmacological considerations, such as natural approaches, are discussed where applicable or desired with certain medical practitioners.
- Output: Ongoing follow-up and monitoring. Referring back to your family doctor for ongoing medication management. More complex presentations of ADHD, may want to stay with our medical team for ongoing review and support.
ADHD Across the Lifespan
Children & Youth (Ages 5–17)
Understanding the "Why" behind the behaviour.
Our child and youth assessments look beyond the classroom. We consider the developmental context across home, school, and social environments.
- What we do: Interviews, rating scales, developmental history review, and testing for attention and executive functioning.
- Time Commitment: Approximately 5–7 hours total.
The Deliverable: A 5–10 page report outlining whether ADHD criteria were met, how conclusions were reached, and practical recommendations for home and school (IPP support).
Adult ADHD Assessment
Untangling years of coping mechanisms.
Adult ADHD is frequently missed, especially in high-functioning individuals who compensated earlier in life. Because there are no agreed-upon medical symptoms for how ADHD presents in adults, deep expertise is required. ADHD symptom presentation is based on boys between the ages of 6-12. We look beyond childhood symptoms and understand what the literature indicates and evidence-informed practices.
The DSM criteria were historically derived from childhood presentations, and many clinicians and researchers agree that DSM symptom lists and examples can be a poor fit for how ADHD often shows up in adults (more internal restlessness than “running/climbing,” executive dysfunction, emotional dysregulation, chronic overwhelm/burnout, etc.). That gap is widely discussed in the literature and in clinical guidelines.
- What we do: We review childhood history, executive functioning patterns, emotional regulation, and burnout cycles. We specifically screen for masking behaviors and co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Gender Based Differences: ADHD in women is often overlooked, especially when symptoms show up as chronic overwhelm, anxiety, burnout, or emotional fatigue rather than hyperactivity. Our team has specialized training in understanding how ADHD presents across the female lifespan, including hormonal shifts and high-masking patterns, to ensure clients feel seen and accurately supported.
- Time Commitment: Approximately 7–10 hours total.
- The Deliverable: A comprehensive report providing diagnostic rationale and individualized recommendations for workplace and life management.
The Invisible Struggle: ADHD in Females & Midlife
It’s not just "in your head"—it’s in your hormones.
ADHD in girls and women is commonly overlooked because it often presents as internalized overwhelm, anxiety, or self-criticism rather than disruptive hyperactivity.
We Intentionally Assess For:
- Internalized symptoms and masking strategies.
- Hormonal influences across adolescence, perimenopause, and menopause.
- “Midlife onset” symptoms—many women seek their first assessment in midlife when hormonal changes intensify previously manageable symptoms.
Parent & Family Focus
What Families Need to Know
If you are seeking an assessment for your child, you likely have questions about medication. Family doctors are often hesitant to prescribe stimulants due to time constraints or limited training. We bridge that gap.
Our Approach for Families
- Thoughtful, Not Automatic: We explore medication as one tool in the toolbox, not the only solution.
- Safety First: If medication is pursued, we adjust dosing gradually (“titration”) to ensure it is tolerated well.
- Holistic View: We reassess if concerns such as anxiety or learning differences are contributing to the behaviour.
Typical, Basic ADHD Assessment
- Short appointments (Checklist-based)
- Focus on symptoms only
- Limited screening for other issues
- Brief or no written report
- One-time prescription
- Little attention to female presentation and the impact of hormones
Our Comprehensive Assessment
- 5–10 hours total (Multi-method assessment)
- Whole-person evaluation
- Differential diagnosis for anxiety and depression
- 5–10 page detailed diagnostic report
- Ongoing monitoring & dose adjustment
- Specialized female & midlife focus
How Our Medical Care is Different
Safety, Science, and Support.
Our Nurse Practitioners are specially trained in ADHD treatment. Unlike a standard walk-in clinic, medication decisions here are never generic.
Why this matters
Research shows that people most often stop ADHD medication not because it doesn’t work, but because of side effects from a dose that was too high, or lack of results from a dose that was too low.
- The Gap: ~1/3 of children are never trialed on first-line medication, and only ~60% of adults are prescribed stimulants despite them being the evidence-based first-line treatment.
- Our Solution: We close this gap through careful titration, monitoring of side effects, and consideration of supplements and lifestyle supports. We don’t just write a script and say “goodbye.”

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why does your Mental Health Team ADHD assessment take so long (5-7 hours)?
Because accurate diagnosis is complex. ADHD symptoms overlap significantly with anxiety, depression, learning differences, and trauma. A thorough assessment reduces the risk of misdiagnosis and ensures that the treatment plan we give you will actually work.
Why are your Nurse Practitioner ADHD assessments shorter than the Mental Health Team one?
The Nurse Practitioner ADHD assessment is focused on the specific presentation of ADHD, and if it will be likely to respond to a medication based treatment plan. The NP Assessment is not a full psychological assessment, and does not assess for most co-morbid conditions.
Are stimulant medications safe?
Yes. Stimulants are the most researched and effective first-line treatment for ADHD. When properly prescribed, titrated, and monitored by a specialist, they are considered safe and highly effective for both children and adults.
Why didn’t medication help me (or my child) before?
Often, this is due to dosing issues (too high caused side effects; too low was ineffective) or because the medication choice didn’t match your specific symptom profile. Our titration-focused approach solves this by slowly finding the “sweet spot” for your unique biology.
Can ADHD be diagnosed later in life?
Yes. Stimulants are the most researched and effective first-line treatment for ADHD. When properly prescribed, titrated, and monitored by a specialist, they are considered safe and highly effective for both children and adults.
Do you recommend supplements?
Yes, some of our nurse practitioners are trained in functional medicine and may recommend supplements based on research and clinical experience.
What if I’m diagnosed with anxiety or depression instead?
That is a successful assessment result. Our goal is the truth, not just an ADHD label. Our assessments are designed to identify whether ADHD, anxiety, depression, or a combination is driving your symptoms so that we can treat the root cause, not just the behavior.
